SALARY: $39,743 annually

SUMMARY: The purpose of this position is to perform road right of way maintenance and ensure quality of ditch drainage for Rockwall County. This is accomplished by laying asphalt, installing and replacing street signs; trimming trees; mowing; maintaining drainage; erosion control; hauling road materials and other assigned duties.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Processes daily work orders; repairs street signs; installs street sign base with a sledgehammer; inserts poles with new signs if needed; puts out warning signs for roadwork.
• Repairs pot holes; shovels and spreads various materials.
• Cuts or trims tree limbs using chainsaw.
• Hauls materials to county yard and job sites.
• Performs basic road maintenance.
• Conducts traffic flagging; maintains consistent visual and radio communications with other employees, operators and traveling citizens; implements lane closures and traffic control.
• Performs tasks at County Maintenance facilities such as cleaning, replacing, repairing and organizing signs; building barricades, welding, fabrication and machine work.
• Uses backhoe and loaders to load material for transportation to the job site; operates backhoe in performance of culvert replacement, ditch cleanout and oversized tree removal.
• Replaces and repairs tires on all equipment; washes and conducts minor repair work on equipment.
• Maintains cleanliness of the work area, office and bathroom.
• Sands roads during inclement weather situations; cleans streets with a street sweeper.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY/BUDGET RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position has no supervisory or budget responsibility.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Ability to operate heavy equipment and obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License.
• Knowledge of operating all equipment such as chainsaw, dump truck, sweeper, backhoe, roller, steel wheel, compactor, air tools, hand tools, shovels, racks, weed eaters, mowers, power washer, water truck and sand-truck.
• Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
• Ability to make decisions in accordance with policies and procedures.
• Ability to prioritize and complete multiple projects.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Class A Commercial Texas Driver's License.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Position works both in a shop and outside. Position has daily exposure to varying temperature ranges and seasonal fluctuations in weather conditions; and occasional exposure to noise and vibration and physical hazards. Health and safety hazards are minimal. Safety glasses, steel toe boots, gloves and ear plugs are recommended. Use of lifting, carrying, reaching, standing, sitting, walking, pushing, pulling, climbing, foot controls, balancing, bending, crouching, hearing, twisting and talking are frequently required.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
