The Department of Medical Education at the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine, UT Health San Antonio is seeking a highly motivated individual to develop and direct the inaugural Medical Spanish Education & Training Program for the Long School of Medicine, through a 60% appointment, as program Director. This leadership position will lead strategic initiatives that include:

Establishing best practices for Spanish-English medical translation certification for clinicians proficient in medical Spanish.

Designing and implementing curricula that prepare learners to meet national translation and interpretation certification standards in medical Spanish.

Developing education programs tailored to related care needs across our clinical environments, ensuring relevance and impact.

As part of implementation, setting and implementing metrics to gather return on investment data on cost savings and patient-related outcomes associated with medical Spanish training and certification.

The successful candidate will:

Hold a terminal degree (PhD, MD, DO)

Have a history of building educational programs targeted to meeting needs of medical professionals as they serve the South Texas Community.

Have experience in budgetary programmatic management and/or directing successful educational programs.

Work collaboratively with clinical departments and healthcare teams to ensure medical Spanish education aligns with real-world patient care needs and enhances communication in a variety of clinical or research settings.

Demonstrate a passion for advancing healthcare through language access, and possess the vision to integrate medical Spanish education as a cornerstone of culturally competent care.

Fluency in the Spanish language preferred.
