Summary

The Area Construction Manager will lead and shape the success of a designated region, driving business growth and operational excellence across multiple counties. As a key player in HR Green’s mission to deliver top-tier construction engineering and inspection (CE&I) services, you’ll take charge of overseeing daily operations, developing new business, and fostering strong client relationships. With full P&L responsibility for your area, you’ll lead a dynamic, high-performing team, ensuring seamless execution and continued growth in the region. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Strategic Management

  • Assists in the development of the business plan, budget, and key performance objectives for their defined area, ensuring alignment with CE&I services such as constructability reviews, contract administration, stakeholder coordination, construction management and inspection.
  • Achieves and exceeds Key Performance Indicators: Regional Gross Margin, Regional Sales, Revenue Factor, and Accounts Receivable/Unbilled.

Marketing and Business Development

  • Develops an area-wide marketing strategy to promote CE&I expertise, leveraging existing client relationships and securing new projects in sectors such as roads and highways, bridges, and stormwater management.
  • Oversees the business development process, identifying and qualifying clients while making strategic go/no-go decisions.
  • Builds and nurtures client relationships to ensure the delivery of quality services, retention, and repeat business.
  • Identifies opportunities to cross-sell services, such as project scheduling, utility coordination, and value engineering.
  • Actively obtains and responds to client feedback to enhance service offerings and strengthen partnerships.

Regional Leadership

  • Recruits, leads, and retains a team of construction managers, resident engineers, construction engineers, and inspection technicians, fostering a culture of innovation and accountability.
  • Supports staff development through initiatives like succession planning, knowledge sharing, and technical training in areas such as quality assessment and federal documentation procedures.
  • Sets annual goals for staff and conducts regular performance evaluations.
  • Enhances HR Green’s brand by participating in local professional and civic organizations.
  • Ensures adherence to company standards and optimizes operations for efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

Project Management

  • Leads high-profile projects and ensures the successful delivery of CE&I services, including preconstruction activities, contract administration, construction management and inspection, and project documentation.
  • Reviews and approves project scope, schedule, fee, and contracts, emphasizing proactive conflict resolution and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Assembles project teams and develops effective teaming/partnering arrangements.
  • Oversees activities such as constructability reviews, safety plan development, and schedule impact resolution.
  • Monitors project schedules and budgets throughout the lifecycle, ensuring compliance with client expectations for quality, timeliness, and cost.
  • Verifies the completion of QA/QC reviews at key project milestones and serves as the primary client contact when needed.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Civil Engineering or a related field required.
  • 10+ years of experience at a civil engineering firm, including construction project management, business development, and team leadership.
  • Project management experience in CE&I services, particularly in transportation, utility coordination, and infrastructure projects for municipalities, Counties, DOT’s, and Toll Authorities.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) licensure preferred.
