Nursing Director - Labor & Delivery
Location: San Antonio, TX

We are seeking an experienced Nursing Director to oversee Labor & Delivery operations on a 24-hour basis. This leadership position is responsible for department performance, staff management, budgeting, quality outcomes, regulatory compliance, and strategic planning. The Director will work closely with physicians, nursing leaders, and hospital administration to ensure exceptional patient care and operational effectiveness.
Responsibilities- Lead daily operations of the Labor & Delivery department
- Develop and manage departmental operating and capital budgets
- Establish departmental goals aligned with organizational objectives
- Recruit, develop, mentor, and evaluate nursing and support staff
- Drive quality improvement and performance management initiatives
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements
- Partner with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to support positive patient outcomes
- Monitor departmental performance metrics and implement improvement strategies
- Support case management and clinical improvement initiatives
- Promote a culture of patient safety, service excellence, and accountability
- Manage resources effectively to achieve quality, efficiency, and financial goals
- Address patient population-specific needs and maintain department readiness
- Lead performance improvement activities and organizational quality initiatives
- Foster employee engagement, retention, and professional development
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Active Texas Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in Labor & Delivery or a related specialty
- Leadership experience within an acute care hospital setting
- Experience managing staff, budgets, and departmental operations
- Strong communication, team-building, and decision-making skills
- Current BLS certification upon hire (AHA or ARC acceptable; AHA Healthcare Provider BLS required thereafter)
- Master's degree in Nursing, Business, Healthcare Administration, or a related field
- 3–5 years of progressive nursing leadership experience
- Specialty nursing certification or nursing administration certification
- Experience leading quality improvement and performance management initiatives
- Proficiency with healthcare information systems and Microsoft Office applications
