Senior Manager, Software Engineering

In Ecosystem & Operational Risk (EOR) technology group, the Payment Fraud Disruption team is responsible for building critical risk and fraud detection and prevention applications and services at Visa. This includes idea generation, architecture, design, development, and testing of products, applications, and services that provide Visa clients with solutions to detect, prevent, and mitigate fraud for Visa and Visa client payment systems.
We are in search of inquisitive, creative, and skillful technologists to join our ranks. We are currently looking for a Senior Manager of Software Engineering who will take the lead on one or more strategic initiative and manage a team of engineers and data scientists within our organization.
The right candidate will possess a strong software engineering background, with demonstrated leadership experience in driving technical architecture, design and delivery of products and services that have created business value and delivered impact.
Essential Functions
Responsible for building enterprise scale applications leveraging Data Engineering, AI/ML and GenAI technologies.
Oversee the end-to-end product lifecycle, from ideation, research, design, development, testing, launch to post-launch evaluation.
Foster an environment of innovation, encouraging the team to bring forward new ideas and solutions
Act as a key liaison between the product team, executive leadership, and other stakeholders, ensuring transparency and alignment.
Responsible for the overall development life cycle of the solution and manage complex products with significant bottom-line impact
Work with geographically distributed global teams
Work with product managers in developing a strategy and road map to provide compelling capabilities that helps them succeed in their business goals
Work closely with senior engineers to develop the best technical design and approach for new product development
Instill best practices for software development and documentation, assure designs meet requirements, and deliver high quality work on tight schedules
Project management: prioritization, planning of projects and features, stakeholder management and tracking of external commitments
Identify opportunities for further enhancements and refinements to standards and processes
Hire, retain and grow world class engineering talent
Mentor junior team members, develop departmental procedures and best practices standards
Strong Negotiation Skills: You will be a distinguished ambassador for product development: collaborating, negotiating, managing tradeoffs, and evaluating opportunistic new ideas with business partners
This is a hybrid position. Expectation of days in office will be confirmed by your Hiring Manager.

Qualifications Basic Qualifications:
• 8+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 5 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 2 years of work experience with a PhD, OR 11+ years of relevant work experience.
• 9 or more years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor Degree or 7 or more relevant years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 3 or more years of experience with a PhD
• Requires 10 or more years of experience, at least 2 of which were in leading engineering teams
• Experience leading design and development of data pipelines and analytics platforms
• Experience leading product development & delivery of AI/ML solutions, applied to real-world problems
• Experience leading design and development of mission-critical, secure, reliable systems
• Experience leading or knowledge of GenAI product development with deep expertise in LLM integration and prompt engineering
• Experience leading delivery across multiple technologies: Python, Java/J2EE, Apache Kafka, Apache Flink, Hive, MySQL, Hadoop, Spark, Scala, design patterns, test automation frameworks
• Excellent understanding of algorithms and data structures
• Excellent problem solving and analytics skills. Capable of forming and advocating an independent viewpoint
• Strong experience with agile methodologies
• Excel in partnering with Product leaders and technical product managers, helping define joint product/technology roadmaps & driving prioritization
• Experience driving continuous improvements to processes/tools for better developer efficiency and productivity
• Demonstrated ability to drive measurable improvements across engineering, delivery and performance metrics
• Demonstrated success in leading high performing, multi-disciplinary and geographically distributed engineering teams. Demonstrated ability to hire, develop and retain high-caliber talent
• Must demonstrate longer-term strategic thinking and staying abreast with latest technologies to assess what’s possible technically
• Strong collaboration and effective communication, with focus on win-win outcomes

Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.
Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.
Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting. The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for this position is $162,500.00 to $260,400.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity. Visa has a comprehensive benefits package for which this position may be eligible that includes Medical, Dental, Vision, 401 (k), FSA/HSA, Life Insurance, Paid Time Off, and Wellness Program.
