Position Information Requisition Number S2056P Position Title Storm Water Inspector Salary $14.26/hour Division Water Utilities Department 52281-Laboratory Administration Location Planning Employment Type Full Time Hours/Days Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm FLSA Status Non-Exempt Classified/Unclassified Classified Grant Funded No SUMMARY Under indirect supervision, this position conducts inspections of residential and commercial construction and industrial sites for storm water permit compliance; conducts reconnaissance for industries that may be required to obtain permits; monitors storm water outfalls and conveyances for dry weather flows and storm water discharges; assists in the maintenance of sample sites and equipment; and responds to incidents and complaints relating to the municipal storm water system. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES - Surveys and inventories storm water outfalls.
- Monitors, samples, and performs field analysis of wet and dry weather flows.
- Collects samples for laboratory analysis, including the use of automatic sampling equipment.
- Acquires and maintains knowledge of all pertinent storm water regulations.
- Performs construction site inspections both residential and commercial, including digital documentation and records review.
- Performs comprehensive industrial storm water inspections, including all required records.
- Responds to spills, complaints and incidents that threaten receiving waters.
- Writes comprehensive reports for industrial and construction site inspections and incident complaint responses.
- Is a core member of the Household Hazardous Waste Program including collection, documentation, and disposal.
- Addresses citizen complaints concerning Stormwater, and regularly interacts with the public in a courteous and professional manner.
- Conducts reconnaissance for industries that may require storm water permits.
- Assists in the maintenance of all storm water equipment including automatic sample sites.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities - Ability to read and interpret grid, topographical, and GIS maps preferred.
- Ability to operate small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.
- Ability to operate computers for data entry and word processing (Microsoft Office or equivalent)
- Ability to operate and make minor repairs to hand tools, automatic sampling and flow recording equipment, field laboratory and safety equipment, PH meters and other instruments.
Licenses/Certification Required Qualifications Requires a High School Diploma or its equivalent. A minimum of one year related experience in water, wastewater, or storm water or a related field is preferred. Must work to obtain a C Wastewater Certificate. Valid Texas Driver's License required. - The City of Amarillo will consider all relevant education and experience when determining an applicants minimum qualifications and starting salary.
Preferred Qualifications Physical Demands The employee must also balance, walk, climb, crawl, crouch, kneel, stand, stoop, sit, hear, handle, feel, finger, grasp, reach, speak, see, and talk. Also requires the ability to make rational decisions and perform repetitive motions.
