Dispatcher

Description

To provide emergency dispatch services; to gather, receive, record and disseminate information from officers and the general public to appropriate parties and agencies; and to perform a variety of technical dispatching tasks in support of the telecommunications program. Specifications are not intended to reflect all duties performed within the job.

Step Pay Scale

Education

• High school diploma or GED.

Experience

• No experience required but preferred 1 year experience in dispatch/telecommunications

License(s) and/or Certification(s)

• Must obtain Telecommunications Operator License from Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) within one (1) year of employment.

Other Requirement(s)

1. Must be a United States citizen.
2. Availability to work varying shifts including nights, weekends, holidays and/or overtime.
3. Must pass an intensive background investigation, psychological exam and drug test.
4. No FELONY or class A MISDEMEANOR convictions.
5. No class B MISDEMEANOR convictions within the last ten (10) years.
6. No drug or domestic violence related convictions.

Knowledge, Skills, Ability(ies)

1. Effective oral and written communication skills.
2. MS Office or similar software skills.
3. Ability to type thirty-five (35) words per minute.
4. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.

Performance Exam

1. Exam covers data entry, memory recall, spelling, reading comprehension, sentence clarity, prioritization, map reading, cross-referencing, and call summarization skills.
2. Time Limit: N/A
3. ***Please note: The Criticall exam for this position can only be taken two (2) times within a twelve (12) month period.
