Nursing Home Physician / Nurse Practitioner Regulatory Consultant
Job Summary
The Nursing Home Physician / Nurse Practitioner Regulatory Consultant serves in a non-clinical, advisory consulting role providing physician-level or advanced practice expertise specific to skilled nursing facilities (nursing homes). This role supports regulatory understanding, interdisciplinary team (IDT) effectiveness, and medical oversight expectations unique to the nursing home environment.
This position does not involve direct resident care. The consultant contributes nursing-home-specific regulatory and clinical perspective to company-developed, proprietary programs, education, expert panels, and public speaking engagements, and provides IDT and regulatory insight where a physician or nurse practitioner viewpoint is required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Design and support implementation of company-developed activities and life enrichment programs.
- Provide physician or nurse practitioner perspective on CMS nursing home regulations, survey expectations, and medical oversight requirements specific to skilled nursing facilities.
- Offer consultative guidance to nursing home leadership and IDT members on care planning concepts, documentation expectations, and physician/APRN roles within the SNF setting.
- Support interpretation of survey findings, citations, and regulatory guidance from a nursing-home-specific clinical perspective.
- Serve as a clinical subject matter expert for internal teams supporting nursing home consulting, education, and quality initiatives.
- All guidance is advisory and aligned with company-approved nursing home programs and resources.
- Contribute nursing-home-specific clinical insight to the refinement, validation, and positioning of company-developed programs related to care planning, IDT effectiveness, and regulatory compliance in skilled nursing facilities.
- Review educational and training content to ensure alignment with nursing home practice realities and regulatory intent.
- Provide physician/APRN perspective without independently developing, implementing, or disclosing proprietary methodologies.
- Participate in expert panels, webinars, conferences, and professional education focused exclusively on nursing homes and skilled nursing facilities.
- Provide physician/APRN regulatory insight during educational programming related to nursing home care planning, IDT roles, and survey readiness.
- Represent the organization in public forums as a nursing-home-focused regulatory subject matter expert.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure external messaging is accurate, consistent, and aligned with company offerings.
- Serve as a trusted nursing-home-specific clinical advisor to internal consulting, program, and leadership teams.
- Support internal understanding of emerging CMS nursing home guidance, survey trends, and medical oversight expectations.
- Contribute to thought leadership initiatives while maintaining confidentiality of proprietary program design.
- This position is strictly consultative and educational. The consultant does not provide direct resident care, conduct clinical assessments, diagnose conditions, prescribe medications, order treatments, or establish provider-patient relationships. All input is advisory and intended to support nursing home staff and organizational teams within their licensed scope of practice.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Proficient computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Excellent oral, written, and customer service-oriented communication skills.
- Excellent and demonstrated criticalthinking ability.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to respond to and coordinate multiple activities simultaneously under short time frames.
- Customer service-oriented when working with internaland external customers.
- Substantial experience working specifically in nursing homes or skilled nursing facilities.
- Strong working knowledge of CMS nursing home regulations, survey processes, and medical oversight expectations.
- Participation in virtual or in-person nursing-home-focused panels and speaking engagements.
- Works collaboratively with internal teams and nursing home partners.
- No direct clinical care responsibilities.
Education, Experience, & Licensing Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s degree required in Recreation Therapy, Gerontology, Healthcare Administration, Social Services, or related field.
Experience/Licensure Requirements
- Experience participating in nursing home IDT processes and care planning from a physician or APRN perspective.
- Experience providing regulatory consultation, education, or advisory support without delivering direct care.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and professional judgment skills.
- Prior experience as a nursing home medical director, attending provider, or regulatory consultant preferred.
- Experience supporting nursing homes during surveys, plans of correction, or regulatory review.
- Experience with public speaking, panels, webinars, or professional education focused on skilled nursing.
