POSITION: IT DBA Specialist Sr

FULLTIME/PARTTIME: Full Time 40 hours a week

LOCATION: Remote

SCHEDULE: Mon- Fri 7am-6pm (CST or EST)

ASSIGNMENT: 10/20/2025 to 09/14/2026 (temp to hire)

PAY RANGE: $53.50- $57.14 hourly paid weekly.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Database Administrator (DBA) to join our enterprise technology team. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining the enterprise database environment across UNIX/NT systems. The DBA will ensure the stability, performance, and security of databases while driving optimization and supporting business-critical applications.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain enterprise database systems.
• Perform logical and physical database design and implementation.
• Conduct structured testing of database designs, applications, and technology platforms.
• Handle security administration, backup/recovery planning, and capacity planning.
• Drive performance tuning and optimization across multiple RDBMS platforms.
• Research, evaluate, and implement new tools and technologies.
• Develop, revise, and enforce policies, standards, and procedures for database administration.
• Participate in database-related projects and cross-functional task forces.
• Provide leadership in transitioning to new technology platforms.
• Support the organization’s quality and compliance programs (HIPAA, PCI, etc.).

Required Qualifications

• Education: Associate degree in computer-related study plus 2 years of computer-related experience required.
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience considered.
• Minimum of 1+ year Enterprise (Oracle, Progress, or SQL) development experience.

Desired Expertise

• Extensive Oracle performance tuning, including:
• SQL query optimization, execution plan analysis, indexing.
• Use of AWR/ASH reports, Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM), and diagnostic tools.
• Proven ability to identify and resolve bottlenecks in OLTP and OLAP environments.
• Knowledge of Oracle architecture (memory structures, background processes, storage management).
• Experience with Oracle High Availability configurations (RAC, Data Guard).
• Familiarity with performance tuning in other RDBMS platforms:
• MariaDB (slow query log analysis, optimizer hints).
• PostgreSQL (EXPLAIN plans, vacuum tuning).
• SAP HANA (query plan analysis, memory management).
• Backup/recovery experience (RMAN or similar tools).
• Experience with database monitoring and alerting tools.
• Scripting proficiency in Unix shell scripting, Perl, Python, or other automation tools.

• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Strong organizational skills with ability to handle multiple priorities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• High level of discretion and professionalism when handling confidential information.

4. What is your level of experience with Unix shell scripting? Have you used Perl, Python, or other scripting languages for DBA tasks?
5. What tools have you used for database monitoring and alerting?
6. Have you worked with RMAN or other backup tools?

Work Environment

• Mental: Clear thinking, troubleshooting, problem solving, analysis, and ability to meet deadlines.
• Physical: Computer keyboarding; occasional travel as required; ability to manage multiple tasks.
• Auditory/Visual: Ability to hear, see, and communicate effectively.

Working Conditions:

• May on occasion be exposed to loud sounds and distracting noise levels, such as from office equipment.
• The ability to lift up to 30lbs.
