Supply Chain Engineer

Position Summary: The Supply Chain Engineer applies engineering principles to optimize supplier performance, ensure robust component design integration, and strengthen the technical capability of EControls’ global supply base. This role serves as a technical bridge between suppliers, internal engineering teams, and operations to ensure world-class quality, delivery, and cost performance. The position supports new product development, cost-reduction initiatives, and continuous improvement through analytical rigor and hands-on supplier engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and develop global supplier partnerships with a strong technical focus, ensuring suppliers meet engineering, quality, and production requirements
  • Apply engineering analysis to identify, validate, and implement cost-saving opportunities across materials, processes, and supplier designs
  • Serve as the technical supply chain representative in new product development, ensuring manufacturability, design intent, and supply readiness throughout the product lifecycle
  • Act as a point of escalation for buyers and quality engineers, providing engineering-based problem solving to resolve supplier issues
  • Interface directly with supplier engineering teams to communicate technical specifications, drawings, PPAP requirements, and design changes
  • Review and approve pricing changes using engineering cost models, value analysis, and process capability insights
  • Lead cost-reduction projects using engineering tools such as DMAIC, PFMEA, root-cause analysis, and should-cost modeling
  • Collaborate with Product Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and Application Engineering to resolve supplier technical issues
  • Develop and execute supplier contracts and agreements that include technical performance clauses, quality expectations, and design requirements
  • Manage RFQ processes by evaluating supplier capability, process flow, manufacturing feasibility, and technical risk
  • Participate in design gate reviews to assess supply feasibility, validate assumptions, and align engineering and supply chain constraints
  • Drive alignment of DFMEA and PFMEA documentation between suppliers and internal engineering teams
  • Submit Manufacturing Equipment Requests (MERs) for supplier tooling and provide technical justification

  • Coordinate with Business Management to evaluate product lifecycle cost models and technical risks
  • Analyze MOQs, process capability, and supplier capacity models to improve pricing and reduce inventory
  • Support supplier payment accuracy by ensuring technical delivery conditions align with contractual terms
  • Lead technical contract reviews and ensure supplier adherence to engineering, quality, and timing requirements
  • Develop and track supplier project timing based on engineering and validation processes
  • Build and maintain RASIC charts and technical open-issues lists to ensure timely execution
  • Identify engineering or process-related roadblocks and drive corrective actions

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Systems) required
  • Master’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering preferred
  • Strong understanding of automotive design, validation, DVP&R timing, and supplier readiness requirements
  • Demonstrated proficiency in manufacturing processes, supplier capability analysis, and process improvement methodologies
  • Knowledge of quality systems including PPAP, APQP, inspection methods, Safe Launch, and process validation
  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without direct authority

Preferred Skills

  • Experience developing engineering project plans using Microsoft Project or similar tools
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with working knowledge of fuel systems, electromechanical components, or sensors
  • Understanding of internal combustion engine operation and related component requirements
  • Motivated, self-sufficient, adaptable, and technically diverse

Location & Compensation:

  • San Antonio, TX
  • Pay: $90,000 - $125,000
  • Full Benefits Package
