Position Summary:

The Senior Manager, Project Engineering is responsible for providing design oversight to align with all current engineering standards, manage & coordinate request for pricing efforts, coordinates the automation deployments in conjunction with the Automation director, and execution support for projects tied to existing or expanding business implementations in the United States. The Senior Manager, Project Engineering drives the development of the designs of the overall facility layout, storage media, and flow paired with appropriate equipment supporting the Concept of Operations. The delivered detailed design must meet customer and internal organizational requirements tied to Safety, Quality, and Productivity. Once approved, the Senior Manager, Project Engineering will then oversee Industrial Engineers with the physical implementation of the design adhering to scope, timeline, and budget requirements set by the Project Manager(s).

Successful candidates will be natural self-starters who are comfortable designing & implementing/upfitting large complex distribution centers. Your superior communication skills, including the proven ability to effectively manage a team, influence and negotiate with external/internal business partners will be utilized in order to meet organizational demands.

The Senior Manager, Project Engineering will be responsible for leading the team of Industrial Engineers in successfully qualifying new solutions & quantifying business requirements, assessing existing sites, developing process design, efficient facility designs utilizing technology where applicable, vendor selections & procurement execution, vendor management, management of all other related implementation/upfit tasks, and support of the decommissioning tasks of the existing sites.

Senior Manager , Project Engineering will be responsible for driving the engineering standards, leading the delivery of project engineering scope, and lead guiding & developing the team of Industrial Engineers. The successful candidate will report directly to the Director of Project Engineering, and collaborate with Operations, real estate, purchasing, and other support teams related to the projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Validation of the business requirements, development of detail process flows, and confirming the Concept of Operations with both Operations and Automation & Integration teams.
  • Facility design oversight for all projects through driving the efficient and effective layout, flow, work areas, and storage media for the project while maintaining DSV standard look and feel across projects and driving completion in a timely manner.
  • Planning and tracking work content for engineers, managing project assignments throughout the year and forecasting bandwidth via annual staff planning
  • Driving & supporting alignment of DSV documented warehouse standards to support new business implementations and existing business various scopes
  • Impeccable attention to operational detail, functional flow, and operational specifications.
  • Determine and gain agreement of final design of facility, operating process, equipment type and quantity
  • Ensures all distribution system functionality is configured to optimize performance (e.g., WMS, LMS)
  • Ability to leverage MS Project or Smart Sheets to plan, schedule, coordinate and problem solve effectively
  • Develop the team to provide the detailed tasks required for successful implementation to the Project Manager
  • Determine and gain agreement of final design of facility, operating process, equipment type and quantity
  • Identify and drive the procurement all necessary capital expense items to support successful launch of operation

OTHER DUTIES

  • Prepares the Design Criteria documents
  • Coordinates the efforts of the senior and junior engineer, providing mentoring, coaching counseling, & development
  • Maintains the CAD version control and current scope specifics throughout the lifecycle of the project
  • Engages the appropriate vendors to assess the design elements including consultants
  • Leads all RFQ’s – Rack, Furniture, Technology, Signage, etc.
  • Creates budgetary considerations with director and project manager
  • Development of continuous improvement processes & culture to be able to take learning from the previous calendar year build cycle, to continue to advance the overall standard & program
  • Other duties as assigned by management to support special projects, implementations, process improvements, etc.
  • Experience dealing with end users, vendors and clients
  • Experience in 3PL environment
  • Ability to travel up to 50%
  • Acts as the company representative with vendors and suppliers during project execution

Education and/or Experience

  • Four-year degree is basic requirement (Industrial Engineering preferred)
  • Minimum of 5 years Logistics/Supply Chain Industry experience
  • 7+ years' experience in warehousing or industrial design

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Planning and tracking work & task allocation of Industrial Engineers
  • Managing project assignments & supporting resource allocations and staffing planning meetings
  • Providing consistent & regular feedback on performance, via formal semi-annual review sessions
  • Developing & cultivating professional development of the team & individuals

Computer Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, and Vizio
  • Knowledge of WMS functionality

Language Skills :

  • English (reading, writing, verbal), Spanish a plus
  • Interpersonal communication and language skills (e.g., listening to others, speaking to others, reading, writing).
  • Communication (facilitation skills and very mature communication skills to be able to communicate to all levels in the organization).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Six Sigma / Lean Certifications
  • E-commerce experience including starting up small to large volume warehouses
  • Experience in warehouse automation applications (Pick to Light, Automated Sortation, Voice Pick, conveyor design, etc.)
