Certified Coding Specialist - CCS 25-30172
Job Title: Certified Coding Specialist
Location: The Woodlands, TX 77380
Duration: 3+ Months (with possible extension)
Shift: Monday – Friday | 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Certified Coding Specialist to join our team. The role involves reviewing clinical documentation and diagnostic results to accurately assign ICD-10-CM, CPT4 codes, and modifiers for billing, reporting, research, and regulatory compliance. This position requires a strong understanding of coding guidelines, outpatient procedures, and effective communication with providers and clinical staff.
Key Responsibilities:Assign accurate codes for diagnoses, treatments, and procedures according to outpatient classification systems.
Utilize technical coding principles and APC reimbursement knowledge to apply ICD-10-CM diagnoses, CPT4 codes, and modifiers.
Review clinical documentation and extract data accurately for coding and other abstracting fields.
Follow coding compliance policies, official coding guidelines, regulatory requirements, and internal procedures.
Adhere to the Standards of Ethical Coding set by AHIMA and official coding guidelines.
Communicate with providers, leadership, and clinical staff regarding documentation and coding queries.
Support safe patient care and maintain adherence to organizational policies, time management, and quality standards.
Participate in professional development, continuing education, and mentoring of less experienced staff.
Contribute to creating compassionate and personalized experiences for patients and colleagues.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required: High School Diploma or GED
Preferred: Associate Degree in a medical-related field
Certifications (at least one required):
Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
Certified Medical Coder (CMC)
Certified Coding Associate (CCA)
Required: 2 years of outpatient E/M coding experience
Preferred: 2 years outpatient Neurosurgery coding experience, 6 months HCC experience
Ability to code neurology cases for physicians
Effective oral and written communication skills
EPIC experience preferred
