Job Title: Certified Coding Specialist

Location: The Woodlands, TX 77380

Duration: 3+ Months (with possible extension)

Shift: Monday – Friday | 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Certified Coding Specialist to join our team. The role involves reviewing clinical documentation and diagnostic results to accurately assign ICD-10-CM, CPT4 codes, and modifiers for billing, reporting, research, and regulatory compliance. This position requires a strong understanding of coding guidelines, outpatient procedures, and effective communication with providers and clinical staff.

• Assign accurate codes for diagnoses, treatments, and procedures according to outpatient classification systems.

• Utilize technical coding principles and APC reimbursement knowledge to apply ICD-10-CM diagnoses, CPT4 codes, and modifiers.

• Review clinical documentation and extract data accurately for coding and other abstracting fields.

• Follow coding compliance policies, official coding guidelines, regulatory requirements, and internal procedures.

• Adhere to the Standards of Ethical Coding set by AHIMA and official coding guidelines.

• Communicate with providers, leadership, and clinical staff regarding documentation and coding queries.

• Support safe patient care and maintain adherence to organizational policies, time management, and quality standards.

• Participate in professional development, continuing education, and mentoring of less experienced staff.

• Contribute to creating compassionate and personalized experiences for patients and colleagues.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Required: High School Diploma or GED

• Preferred: Associate Degree in a medical-related field

• Certifications (at least one required):

  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)

  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC)

  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)

  • Certified Medical Coder (CMC)

  • Certified Coding Associate (CCA)

• Required: 2 years of outpatient E/M coding experience

• Preferred: 2 years outpatient Neurosurgery coding experience, 6 months HCC experience

• Ability to code neurology cases for physicians

• Effective oral and written communication skills

• EPIC experience preferred
