About Baytown

With a population of more than 77,000, Baytown, Texas, is located in the Gulf Coast region of the United States, just east of Houston, the nation's fourth largest city. Those who live and work in Baytown will find an area rich in history, as well as opportunities for outdoor activities due to its proximity to scenic waterways, namely Galveston Bay, the San Jacinto River and Buffalo Bayou.

Founded in 1919, ExxonMobil's Baytown Complex is located on approximately 3,400 acres along the Houston Ship Channel, about 25 miles east of Houston. Employing a workforce of more than 8,500, it is comprised of four manufacturing sites, including one in nearby Mont Belvieu, and a global technology center. These include the Baytown Refinery, one of the largest refineries in the United States, and the Baytown Olefins Plant, one of the largest ethylene plants in the world.

Its scope of products includes fuels, lube oils, and chemical compounds used in a diverse range of products, from auto battery cases, diapers and tire inner tubes to pharmaceutical uses, food packaging, trash bags and more.

The Baytown area sites are highly integrated, which makes the plants and products more efficient as we develop technologies to make cleaner fuels and work together to operate more safely and reliably.

About Houston

ExxonMobil's state-of-the-art campus north of Houston serves as home to its Upstream, Product Solutions and Low Carbon Solutions businesses and their associated service groups. The facility opened in 2014 and accommodates more than 10,000 employees and visitors.

By bringing many global functional groups together, the campus provides employees with the tools and capabilities needed today, and in the future, to achieve business objectives and accelerate the discovery of new resources, technologies and products. It was designed to foster improved collaboration, creativity and innovation and enhance the company’s ability to attract, develop and retain the top talent in the industry.

The campus is located in Spring, Texas, on 385 wooded acres immediately to the west of Interstate Highway 45 (I-45), at the intersection of I-45 and the Hardy Toll Road, approximately 25 miles from the cultural vibrancy of downtown Houston.

The campus was constructed to the highest standards of energy efficiency and environmental stewardship. Its design incorporates extensive research into best practices in building and workplace design through extensive benchmarking of the world’s top academic, research, and corporate facilities.

What role you will play in our team

The Research Lab Technologist role is part of the Global Operations Lab organization and is located across the greater Houston area. Technologists work as part of a team to provide experimental and standardized testing results in support of Businesses and longer-term research. They perform operations problem solving and technical data generation, analysis, and collection. This position may require travel between Houston Area Campus and Baytown facility.

What you will do

• Safely run, monitor, maintain, and calibrate analytical and physical testing equipment including auxiliary equipment (ex. detectors, analyzers, ovens, pumps, and facilitating gases/liquids, etc.)
• Safely and ethically manage materials, specimens, and products
• Analyze and interpret process runs and product results
• Diagnose equipment and testing performance; appropriately correct for deviations
• Enable facilitation of logistics with systems, controls, data traceability and managed change
• Interface with individuals and teams of engineers and scientists daily

About you

Skills and Qualifications

• Minimum BS in a science or engineering discipline and/or relevant work experience
• Capable of safe, reliable, independent and proactive laboratory work with framed objectives and regular direction
• Ability to work in a team environment and to learn new techniques as needed
• Experience using laboratory, analytical, and auxiliary equipment
• Strong mechanical/analytical and problem-solving skillset
• Ability to read and follow detailed instructions/procedures
• Meticulous attention to accuracy and precision
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Able to safely perform physical work (ex. lifting) as appropriate
• Strong Microsoft Office experience, particularly Excel

Preferred Qualifications/ Experience

• Demonstrated experience in process troubleshooting
• Demonstrated experience in statistical analysis and process controls
• Experience in Regulatory or Chemical analytical tools in related chemistries
• Experience with digital applications (ex. MATLAB, R) / software / hardware
