Construction Project Engineer

ROLE
WHC – A Surerus Murphy Company (WHC), is seeking to recruit a Construction Project Engineer for our Renewables sector. The Renewables Construction Project Engineer works as part of a team of engineering, construction, quality, management, and controls personnel to build utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). The Project Engineer drives outcomes by leveraging project design expertise and data analysis to amplify the execution of WHC's Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Modules, Structural, and SCADA teams, ensuring our clients achieve their goals on time and within budget.

Project Engineers are site experts in all aspects of project design. They communicate regularly with the installation teams, Engineer of Record, subcontractors, project management and client stakeholders to ensure optimal cooperation and execution. Successful Project Engineers can expect follow-on positions in project management, controls, or planning, ensuring that the lessons learned from past projects can be developed into processes that help our sector scale more rapidly. People who are successful in this role are thoughtful, analytical, have a deep intuition for scale, and a strong ability to turn engineering concepts and data analysis into action.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead and coordinate renewable energy construction projects, ensuring safe, high-quality, and profitable installation.
• Demonstrate exceptional communication and organizational skills. Maintain comprehensive meeting minutes, prepare project status reports, and manage project-related documentation.
• Serve as the site expert for understanding the project scope. Identify any scope and responsibility gaps and address them in a timely manner. This requires a comprehensive understanding of engineering, procurement, permitting and execution processes.
• Manage project schedules, taking corrective action when necessary to keep projects on track.
• Prepare change order requests and coordinate change order estimations under the direction of the Project Manager.
• Review project design documents which include Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Structural, and Communications IFC Drawing sets. Provide regular redline updates to our clients when necessary.
• Serve as the team Research and Development (R & D) lead to increase project efficiency and profitability. Always be looking for new ways to develop scalable processes. Proactively identify opportunities for process improvement, contributing to ongoing enhancements.
• Foster collaboration among the Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Modules teams, facilitating smooth information flow and ensuring efficient and timely workflow handover.
• Resolve day-to-day project issues and emergencies, making decisions in alignment with project goals and adapt to changing project requirements and priorities as needed.

Note: In addition to these duties personnel are required to carry out such other duties as may be reasonably required in order to support the objectives of the company.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degrees in engineering, science, computer science, and finance are preferred, but we’ll consider candidates of all backgrounds who seem likely to succeed.

Experience

• 1-3 years of project engineering or project management experience in a technical or fast-paced domain. Previous BESS and/or Substation experience is preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel.

Skills and Knowledge

• The ability to solve structured and unstructured problems in engineering and construction settings.
• Willingness to live near and work from a solar project site for 10-12 months of your first year.
• A passion for Renewable Energy and capital projects. We want to make investments in talented people who are in this industry for the long term.
• Introspection and receptiveness to feedback.

WORKING CONDITIONS
This position is field based and often works within remote project locations. Currently our need is for a project in Nevada, Tx (Roughly 30 minutes NE of Dallas, Tx). Travel and/or living in temporary accommodation is required. Able to work 6 days on, 1 day off shift with10 hour shifts for the duration of project.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
The Project Engineer reports to the Site Manager and Project Manager.
