Initial assignment is for two years from initial hire date. Possible extensions, based on performance and funding acquisition. Security sensitive; criminal background checks conducted on selected candidate. Hiring decision is contingent upon applicant clearing background requirement. Purpose To lead and support research activities in the Center for Pandemic Decision Science related to a CDC-funded five-year project “Center for Implementation in Outbreak Analytics and Disease Modeling: Multi-Scale Outbreak Decision-Support Tools.” The position will focus on issues of equity and health disparities with respect to infectious diseases and support scientists in building data pipelines, decision-support models, and training resources for public health agencies that are equitable, inclusive and representative. Responsibilities
  • Research Leadership: Develop and coordinate Center research projects that address equity issues relating to the design, development, and implementation of epidemic models and training resources. This will include leadership in supporting the research team in internal projects and engagements with public health partners, as well as identifying, articulating, and managing equity-related projects in support of the broader Center activities and goals.
  • Biases and Ensuring Equity in Data, Modeling and Research: Broadly raise awareness of key disparities and equity concerns in public health data, forecasting, and decision-support modeling. Promote the integration of diverse perspectives and equity challenges into Center projects, data acquisition and analyses, research dissemination, and training efforts. Serve as a liaison to public health and community organizations within and outside of UT to gather data, build relationships, and ensure the relevance and translation of research efforts. Facilitate the design and implementation of surveys and focus groups to identify biases and needs relating to Center model development and training activities. Ensure the Center consults stakeholders appropriate to the efforts, such as but not limited to community leaders, public health officials, and area experts who have not only a vested interest in the research, but information and expertise that will enhance the process and findings.
Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree and at least five (5) years' experience in research, project management or community engagement. Demonstrated expertise in and impact on matters of diversity and public health equity. Ability to communicate with others in a clear, understandable, and professional manner, both verbally and in writing. Strong project management skills, including the ability to plan, organize and schedule work efficiently, focusing on key priorities and meeting deadlines, attention to detail, effective follow-through, and adaptability. Ability to interact with peers, clients, stakeholders, and diverse communities and exhibit sound judgment in decision making. Demonstrated ability to learn and apply new information, knowledge and experiences in a timely manner. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Preferred Qualifications Experience in academic research environments, particularly in the fields of public health, epidemiology, mathematics, or data science. Knowledge of UT policies and procedures. Experience with integrating concepts from public health and social science into quantitative research methods. Salary Range $36,000 (prorated for 20 hours per week) + depending on qualifications Working Conditions
