Research Technician I - Part-time
Summary
Professor Opekun's laboratory in the Section of Gastroenterology & Hepatology in the Department of Medicine is looking to hire a research technician to support our research mission. The lab is seeking a motivated 4th year undergraduate student or recent undergraduate who is transitioning to graduate school who is genuinely interested in biomedical research. Technician who has a long-term career goal in research or medicine and wants to join an active research team. The realm includes studies the role of inflammatory bowel disease and intestinal failure. The position is currently part-time at 12 hours/week . Must pass NIH background check and prerequisite online training and do so expeditiously. If time allows, the technician is encouraged to take an active role in research project discussion, planning, data recording, and learning to do basic presentations that aims for career advancement. Uses undergraduate computer programming skills (R-coding) and knowledge of college-level biochemistry and genetics will facilitate project completion.
Job Duties
- Helps with All-of-Us database virtual bench studies in the lab to accelerate research on the mechanism of intestinal diseases and inflammatory conditions.
- Performs wet-lab assays and duties that includes enzyme activity determinations.
- Prepares reagents.
- Assists with SDS-PAGE assays.
- Orders laboratory supplies using Jagger
- Processes clinical research samples for long term storage.
- Maintains the excel spread sheet that accounts that relate to said clinical research samples.
- Performs laboratory glassware cleaning and participates in routine biomedical laboratory activities that support the Digestive Disease Center mission.
- Works with the NIH Human Genome Center Restricted Database to determine the association between sucrase-isomaltose mutations and GI symptoms (ICD-9/10 codes).
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Two years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
- One year of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Be organized, prompt, self-motivated, teamwork, works well with others, multitasking, and professionally assertive work attitude (enthusiastic can-do attitude).
- Has undergraduate computer programming skills (R-coding) and knowledge of college-level biochemistry and genetics is a plus.
- Has Spanish language skills.
