Payroll Specialist

Position Overview
Hays Electrical Services is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Payroll Specialist to join our team to help manage and process payroll in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This role requires a strong understanding of certified payroll reporting and prevailing wage laws, ensuring accurate and timely payroll for all employees.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and process weekly/biweekly payroll for 1,000+ employees, including hourly, salary, and jobsite-based staff.
Review and validate timecards, ensuring all job codes, cost centers, and classifications are correct.
Coordinate with jobsite supervisors and managers to resolve time entry discrepancies prior to payroll submission.
Process adjustments, garnishments, deductions, and reimbursements accurately and on time.
Maintain payroll tax compliance (federal, state, and local) and keep up with changes to wage/tax laws and assist with certified payroll reporting (Davis-Bacon, prevailing wage, local/state requirements).
Assist with maintenance of timekeeping hardware (Kiosk Mode, geofencing, etc.).
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s degree in accounting, business, or related field preferred.
Certified Payroll Professional preferred
2+ years of payroll experience, preferably within the construction or electrical contracting industry.
Experience with certified payroll, multi-state payroll, and prevailing wage reporting strongly preferred.
Proficient in payroll software (ADP, Dayforce, Viewpoint, Miter, or similar).
Strong Excel and data reconciliation skills.
Knowledge of Davis-Bacon and state wage determination requirements.
High attention to detail, accuracy, and confidentiality.
Excellent communication and organizational skills; ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
