Research Technician II
Summary
The Center for Cell and Gene Therapy, a highly collaborative translational research center affiliated with Texas Children's Hospital, Baylor College of Medicine, and Houston Methodist Hospital, is seeking a motivated Research Technician to support ongoing pre-clinical immunotherapy research with the goal of developing and accessing novel adoptive T cell therapies to target pediatric solid tumors. The Research Technician will have direct interactions with the Principal Investigator and have ample opportunity for learning and growth. Responsibilities will be focused on generating experimental data. Primary duties include, but are not limited to, presenting at lab meetings at regular intervals, conducting experiments, and collecting and analyzing data. The position will be integrated within the larger Center for Cell and Gene Therapy which is a highly collaborative translational research center affiliated with Texas Children’s Hospital, Baylor College of Medicine, and Houston Methodist Hospital. Attendance at weekly educational seminars/lab meeting during standard work hours is generally expected.
The technician has the ability and willingness to learn new skills related to tissue culture, molecular biology, flow cytometry, sequencing, and animal models. Furthermore, the technician will exhibit strong interpersonal skills as they will have extensive interactions with vendors, core facilities, other labs, and members of the growing lab. Learning of laboratory techniques and skills will be initially under the guidance of PI. As they gain experience in experimental design and learn variety of laboratory skills, the technician will be encouraged to perform independent experimental planning.
Job Duties
- Generates experimental data regularly is the primary responsibility in the job.
- Prepares and conducts laboratory research experiments (e.g., flow cytometry, Western blot, mouse models, tissue culture, etc.).
- Collects, compiles, and analyzes data.
- Conducts literature searches and summarizes information in an appropriate format for a particular study.
- Documents and organizes results of experiments.
- Selects, evaluates, and applies techniques used in routine research.
- Attends regularly scheduled educational seminars and lab meetings.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
- No experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
- MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Has strong interpersonal skills.
- Has willingness to learn new skills related to tissue culture, molecular biology, flow cytometry, sequencing, and animal models.
