Site Safety & Health Officer
About the Role
We’re seeking an experienced Site Safety & Health Officer to lead safety programs on complex heavy civil and federal construction projects. This role requires deep knowledge of federal safety standards, strong communication skills, and the ability to maintain a visible, proactive presence in the field. Travel and relocation are required for domestic and international project sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership for implementing and continuously improving company safety policies and processes
- Maintain a strong, visible presence on jobsites to enforce safe work practices
- Prepare and review Safety Plans , Accident Prevention Plans, and Job Hazard Analyses
- Coordinate drug screening requirements for construction projects
- Develop, coordinate, and deliver safety training for field employees
- Manage the purchase, issuance, and proper use of PPE for field crews
- Develop and maintain safety forms, policies, and documentation
- Distribute Safety Data Sheets (SDS) to field teams
- Assist with accident investigations and reporting
- Conduct daily communication with field crews using professionalism and tact
- Interface with clients regarding project safety expectations and performance
- Perform site safety inspections and coordinate corrective actions with contractors
- Track safety trends, identify risks, and recommend improvements to reduce incidents and losses
- Participate in pre‑construction meetings and regular contractor status meetings
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety Engineering , Occupational Health & Safety , or a related construction field
- Minimum 10 years of SSHO experience and participation in at least two federal design‑build projects valued at $5M+
- Ability to interpret technical documents, regulations, and federal safety requirements
- Strong attention to detail and effective communication skills
- Ability to wear PPE (including respirators) and meet physical demands: walking, standing, lifting up to 40 lbs, climbing ladders/stairs, bending, squatting, and crawling in tight spaces
- Knowledge of federal construction safety requirements and OSHA 1926 regulations
- Completion of OSHA 10‑hour training
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Ability to speak and understand Spanish
- Willingness to travel and relocate for domestic and international project assignments
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience coordinating safety programs on large‑scale heavy civil projects
- Additional OSHA or safety‑related certifications
Work Environment
This role requires regular field presence, physical activity, and travel to active construction sites. Candidates must be comfortable working in varying weather conditions and interacting daily with field crews and clients.
