• Full-time, Temporary Assignment

ROLE IMPACT
The Departmental Budget Analyst supports the organization’s financial stewardship by administering, monitoring, and analyzing departmental budgets. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, effective control of expenditures, and alignment of departmental spending with approved financial plans. Success in this position is defined by accurate forecasting, timely reporting, and actionable financial insights that drive fiscal responsibility and operational efficiency.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assist in the preparation of annual operating, capital, grant, and trust budgets to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Monitor departmental expenditures, revenues, and fund balances to maintain accountability and fiscal integrity.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports, including cost analysis and performance data, for management decision support.
• Review financial data for council agenda items and collaborate with staff to resolve discrepancies or budget issues.
• Oversee financial system transactions, including receivables, payables, and reconciliations, ensuring adherence to policy and accuracy.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, Finance, Accounting, or Public Administration required.
• 5+ years of professional experience in budget analysis, forecasting, or accounting.
• Strong analytical ability to interpret financial data and develop accurate projections.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with proven ability to collaborate across departments.

• Microsoft Excel and financial modeling software
• Automated accounting and ERP systems
• Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
• Budget reporting and forecasting tools

PREFERRED SKILLS
• Experience preparing government or public-sector budgets
• Knowledge of municipal or grant-based accounting procedures
• Ability to perform statistical and financial impact analyses
