JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Technical Trainer, with expertise in electrical systems, top drive systems, automated catwalks, wrenches, and/or integrated rig control systems, to join our team in the oil and gas industry. This role is responsible for delivering both classroom and hands-on training to field technicians, engineers, and other personnel to enhance their technical capabilities and operational performance.

The ideal candidate will possess strong hands-on experience with electrical and mechanical systems, especially in integrated rig technologies, and will be passionate about knowledge transfer and continuous learning.

Note: This is not a field-based position.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Classroom Training and Mentorship:

• Deliver Webex-based training to customers across multiple time zones.
• Conduct classroom and hands-on instruction in the operation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, top drive systems, automated catwalks, wrenches, and integrated rig control systems.
• Provide individualized coaching and constructive feedback to address skill gaps and enhance performance.

Technical Guidance:

• Share industry best practices and safety protocols specific to the supported equipment.
• Assist trainees with real-time troubleshooting and issue resolution.

Curriculum Development:

• Develop and maintain training curriculum and supporting documentation.
• Create technical manuals, visual aids, and troubleshooting guides.

Performance Monitoring and Feedback:

• Track trainee progress and provide regular feedback.
• Document and report performance metrics, identifying areas for improvement.

Collaboration:

• Partner with operational teams to align training content with technical and organizational objectives.
• Act as a liaison between trainees and leadership to communicate needs and concerns effectively.

Assessment:

• Observe and assess personnel during training sessions to evaluate technical proficiency and adherence to safety protocols.
• Provide hands-on guidance and written competency assessments.

Industry Expertise:

• Stay current with technological developments in top drives, catwalks, wrenches, and rig control systems.
• Integrate emerging trends and technologies into training programs.
• Serve as a subject matter expert for electrical and rig equipment systems, supporting field teams in complex troubleshooting efforts.
• Serve as a subject matter expert in electrical systems, top drives, automated catwalks and wrenches and/or integrated rig control technologies, staying informed about advancements and emerging trends in the field.
• Assist operational teams in diagnosing and resolving complex system issues while providing training opportunities for personnel.

  • Education and/or Experience - High school diploma and/or trade/technical school diploma and 7+ years  of hands-on experience with top drive, automated catwalks, wrenches and/or integrated rig control systems in the oil and gas industry.
  • Technical Skills - Â Must be proficient in the operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of various models and versions of at least one of the following: top drives, automated catwalks and wrenches or integrated rig control systems.
  • Electrical Skills - Â Must be proficient in electrical systems related to oil and gas or similar industriesÂ
  • Language Skills - Must be fluent in English and possess the following abilities: to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos, to write simple correspondence, to effectively present information in one on one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.Â
  • Problem Solving - Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner, gathers and analyzes information
    skillfully, develops alternative solutions, works well in a problem-solving situation.
  • Mathematical Skills - Possess the ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Possess the ability to compute rate, ratio and percentage.
  • Reasoning Ability - Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Â Ability to with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.Â
  • Computer Skills - General knowledge of word processing software and email messaging, and an all-around general knowledge of computers operations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Understanding of Microsoft Office and PowerPoint presentations
• Advanced Mechanical and Electrical training or experienceÂ
• Strong knowledge of the mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems related to rig equipment.
• Extended knowledge of generator controls and VFD (Variable Frequency Drive) systems.
• Fluent in Spanish language is a plus.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics
• Skilled in equipment troubleshooting and repair
• Experience using process meters and micrometers
• Familiarity with OEM drilling equipment
• Skilled in low- and medium-voltage electrical systems (up to 600V)
• Hydraulic and mechanical system expertis.

• Working at heights as considered above 20 feet from either a boatswain chair, ladder, or other means of retention.
