Job Description
The EDM Operator is responsible for operating and programming Electrical Discharge Machines (EDM), including wire and/or sinker EDM systems, to produce precision metal components that meet tight tolerances. This role includes machine setup, tooling preparation, reading blueprints, performing in-process inspections, and collaborating with engineering and production teams to ensure quality and productivity standards. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate wire and/or sinker EDM machines
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and CAD/CAM files
- Program EDM machines using G-code or conversational controls (Mitsubishi, Agie, etc.)
- Inspect parts using micrometers, calipers, and other precision tools to verify tight tolerances
- Maintain accurate documentation, including logs and inspection records
- Perform basic preventive maintenance and troubleshoot equipment issues
- Work collaboratively with engineers and quality assurance to resolve technical challenges
- Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area
Qualifications and Requirements
- 2+ years of EDM operation experience (wire and/or sinker)
- Proficiency in blueprint reading and machining specifications
- Experience with EDM programming software preferred (e.g., AutoCAD, BOBCAD, Mastercam)
- Skilled in using micrometers, calipers, and other measurement tools
- Ability to manage multiple tasks while meeting deadlines
- Knowledge of various metals and materials (aluminum, titanium, steel alloys)
- High school diploma or GED; technical certification or associate degree in machining is a plus

The base salary range for this position is $60,000-$80,000, excluding benefits, bonuses, or other compensation. Your final salary will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, location, and internal pay equity. Please note, hiring at the top of the range is uncommon to allow room for future salary growth.
