ROLE IMPACT
As part of the Aviation Public Safety team, the Airport Communications Specialist supports safe, compliant, and efficient airport operations by serving as the central communication link for airport users. This role ensures timely coordination, accurate documentation, and clear notifications during daily operations and emergency events. Success is defined by reliable information flow, calm response under pressure, and consistent customer service for all stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
• Act as the primary liaison between the airport, tenants, customers, internal staff, and surrounding community; answer inquiries and resolve concerns related to airport operations and services
• Coordinate and communicate with Department of Aviation staff during incidents, events, and service requests
• Maintain detailed logs and records of all communications to ensure proper documentation and resolution
• Use communications systems and technology to send alerts and notifications to airport stakeholders
• Enter, submit, and track work orders to ensure timely and accurate completion
• Respond to alerts and emergency situations by notifying required parties and agencies; document emergency events and support mitigation efforts

Minimum Qualifications
• Two years of experience in airport operations, emergency management, emergency dispatch, communications centers, tactical operations centers, or airline operations
• High School Diploma or GED
• Valid and current Driver’s License

• Telecommunication devices and multi-line phone systems
• Public address (PA) systems
• Computers and information management software
• Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Office tools
• Incident logging and work order systems

Preferred Skills
• Knowledge of airport regulations and compliance standards, including 14 CFR Part 139 and 49 CFR Part 1542
• Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively across diverse populations
• Ability to remain calm, professional, and effective during emergency situations
• Ability to type at least 40 words per minute
• Ability to work in a closed-room environment, tolerate extended periods of sitting or standing, and work overtime as needed
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with Sensitive Security Information (SSI) requirements
• Spanish or additional language proficiency
• Trade or professional certifications in airport operations, airport management, or emergency dispatch (e.g., ACE, CM, USAP, APCO, NENA, IAED)
• Completion of NIMS IS-100, IS-200, IS-700, and IS-800
