Safety Specialist - Field Operations

Percepto
Austin, TX

Percepto is the leading provider of autonomous inspection and monitoring solutions, harnessing robotics, including our very own market-leading industrial drone-in-a-box solution. Our team is made up of software and hardware engineers, industry experts, and professionals who are all passionate about innovation and driven to push the boundaries of what’s possible with software, AI, and hardware. We are a fast-growing company with offices in Israel, the U.S., and Australia, with Fortune 500 clients worldwide. Our company growth is not stopping any time soon, and we are looking for great talent like you to join our team

We are seeking a detail-oriented, self-motivated Compliance Specialist to join our regulations and safety department. This role is critical in ensuring our UAS operations comply with FAA regulations and Percepto’s internal standards. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working independently, collaborating across teams, and traveling frequently—up to 50% of the time—to evaluate and audit operational sites and engage with local communities.

Responsibilities:
  • Travel to UAS operational sites to assess airspace, flight areas, routes, and ground risk from an operational safety perspective, identifying hazards and practical mitigations.
  • Perform on-site operational safety assessments, evaluating how pilots and site teams execute procedures, use checklists, and manage risk during normal and non-normal operations.
  • Review site setup, launch and recovery areas, emergency access, and surrounding activity to assess the actual risk environment, not just what is documented.
  • Observe operations and provide constructive safety feedback focused on improving execution, situational awareness, and procedural adherence.
  • Conduct risk assessments, hazard analyses, and mitigations used in operational planning and site approval.
  • Conduct audits and reviews of operational sites with a focus on safety effectiveness, not just compliance with written requirements.
  • Track findings and follow up to ensure safety issues are addressed and closed, in coordination with Operations and site teams.
  • Lead community and stakeholder engagement related to safe UAS operations.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aviation, UAS, Engineering, Safety, or a related field, or equivalent operational experience.
  • Experience in aviation operations, UAS operations, or aviation safety, with a strong understanding of how operational risk is managed in practice.
  • Working knowledge of aviation risk assessment methodologies, including hazard identification, likelihood and severity evaluation, and development of practical mitigations within an SMS or equivalent safety framework.
  • Strong understanding of airspace, traffic environments, and ground risk factors as they relate to UAS operations, including how airspace use, surrounding activity, terrain, and population influence operational risk and mitigations.
  • Familiarity with FAA Part 107 and how it applies operationally (not just theoretically).
  • Strong observational skills and the ability to translate field observations into clear, actionable safety findings.
  • Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently in the field and collaborate effectively with pilots, operators, and cross-functional teams.
  • Willingness and ability to travel approximately 50% within the U.S. and Canada.
  • Why This Role Matters

This role is critical to ensuring that safety is not just documented, but understood, applied, and effective in the field. The Safety Specialist helps bridge the gap between written procedures and real-world operations, supporting pilots and operators while strengthening the overall safety posture of the organization.
